IRS expands program on payroll taxes and worker classification

Worker classification and payroll taxes are invariably a tricky issue for employers. As we discussed in our January 18 post, employers can encounter problems with the IRS when they do not make payroll tax payments in a timely manner.

Supreme Court hears case on foreign tax credits

The U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments yesterday in a key case involving the rules for the taxation of foreign income. In recent years, there has been considerable controversy about the IRS's efforts to collect taxes on offshore accounts. This case, however, concerns the question of U.S. tax credits based on the payment of foreign taxes.
